Meet the Staff

Julia Dawson

Julia Dawson, Program Associate

Julia Dawson was born and raised in Charleston, SC. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts in 2004 with a liberal arts degree. Julia majored in African and African American Studies with a concentration in African American literature and history. African American Studies is an interdisciplinary major that investigates the dynamics of race and class in American history, literature, economics, and society.

Julia was introduced to community economic development in 1998 through her work with The Community Foundation Serving Coastal Carolina. It was then that she first studied under Bernie Mazyck to complete a research project concerning economic development in the non-profit versus the local government sectors. This project familiarized Julia with grassroots community development work in South Carolina.

Julia is honored to have another opportunity to learn about community economic development. As a Program Associate Julia assists several projects simultaneously. She currently coordinates the Community Collaborative Consortium, a partnership amongst five statewide non-profits, including the SCACDC. Julia supports CDC's and agency allies through the Grassroots Development Initiative, and she creates the bi-weekly e-newsletter.
